SCRA 2009 Mathematics Question Paper
CBSE Class 12 Chemistry Notes: Electrochemistry – Introduction
Electrolysis
In eletrolysis electrical energy is transformed into chemical energy.
When an electric charge is passed through chemicals having ions mostly in solution or molten state it results into addition reduction which consequently deposit or liberate chemical ions at electrdes.
One mole of e- holds a charge of approximately 96500 coloumbs which is shortly called as 1 Faraday charge.
When 1 Faraday charge is applied to a chemical substance it result into change of 1 equivalent of that specific chemical substance.
1 Faraday charge unit is very large for experimental purpose, thus sometimes chemist study by 1 coloumb of charge this is then known as to create an effect on 1 electro chemical equivalent.
Redox Cathode (Reduction) Auode (acidic)
Na+ + e- → Na Cl → e-
Na+ + e- → Na
Na+ + e- → Na Cl + Cl → Cl2

CBSE Class 12 Chemistry Notes: Electrochemistry – Photochemical Decomposition of Water
Conversion of solar energy into chemical energy can also be achieved by photochemical reactions, occurring in a homogeneous or a heterogeneous system.
Photochemical decomposition of water into H2and O2 is an interesting process.
H2O(l) →H2(g) + ½ O2(g) ∆ G o298 = 238 kJ mol–1
This reaction requires a photosensitizes because water itself does not absorb radiation above 200 nm. Generally, transition metal complexes exhibiting photoredox properties are used as photosensitizers for this reaction.
The main problem however, is that most transition metal complexes involve one electron transfer per photon absorbed, whereas the water spliting reaction, such as,
H2O(l) + 2e– → 2OH–(aq) + H2(g)
2H2O (l) → 4H+ (aq) +O2 (g) + 4e–
involve more than one electron. Ru(bipy)32+ (ruthenium bipyridyl complex ion), is a good photo-sensitizer, and acts as a reducing and oxidizing agent in the excited state. Reductive quenching of Ru(bipy)32+ produces a powerful reductant, Ru(bipy)3+ and oxidative quenching generates a strong oxidant, Ru(bipy)33+.

The Asian Science Camp would invite about ten Nobel Laureates or world class scientists as speakers and devise an interesting program to attract the participants. The program would include plenary sessions, round table discussions, student master dialogues, a creative poster competition, social events and excursion.
Asian Science Camp 2012 is the sixth of the series. The previous camps were successfully held at Taipei (2007), Bali (2008), Japan(2009), India(2010) and Korea(2011). ASC 2012 will be held in Israel during August 26-31, 2012. About 250 students from 24 countries/regions are expected to participate in this event.
Every year the Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India is extending its support to 25-30 bright Indian students to participate in the ASC.
Nominations from educational institutions are obtained/invited of 2-3 students who are pursuing Science course in the 1st year B.Sc / B.S. / Int. M.Sc. / M.S. program during the academic year 2011-12. The students have to be outstanding in Mathematics or natural sciences including Physics, Chemistry, Biology. The students should –
- be KVPY/INSPIRE Fellow
- have proficiency in oral as well as written English and show a genuine interest in Science and Research
- be able to attend the ASC – 2012 for the full duration
- have a pass port valid at least till end of February 2013 for travel to Jerusalem, Israel.
- have consent from parents for participating in the ASC – 2012 at Israel and
- be within the age group of 17-21 years
The Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India will cover all expenses towards (i) their travel to Jerusalem and back (from Mumbai / Delhi), (ii) Domestic travel by 3rd AC to Mumbai/Delhi and back. There will be no registration fee and the camp organising committee will provide the participants local hospitality at the camp in Jerusalem, Israel.
Institutions may forward the details of the nominated students in prescribed form (available in the KVPY and DST website) along with the supporting documents and its recommendations to the Convener, KVPY, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore – 560 012 by Speed Post or Regd. You should write in ink or ball point pen the name of the centre and subject in English or Hindi. The test Booklet Series is indicated by Alphabets A, B, C, or D at the top right hand corner of the Booklet.
Write your Roll Numbers exactly as it is in your Admission Certificate in ink in the boxes provided for this purpose. Do not omit any zero(s) which may be there. The next step is to find out the appropriate subject code from the Time Table. Now encode the Test Booklet Series, Subject Code and the Roll Number in the circles provided for this purpose.
